IPC has promoted Philippa Brown to the new position of group
marketing director ahead of a large-scale marketing drive by the
publisher.
Brown, who left a board position at the Motive Partnership to become
IPC’s marketing director, advertising in 1997, will take control of all
marketing activity including advertising, sponsorship and PR for each of
the group’s titles.
Her first task will be to recruit marketing directors for the group’s
Music & Sport, Connect and Southbank Publishing companies. ’My main
focus will be to challenge all of our existing marketing plans and
ensure that we are delivering as effectively and efficiently as
possible,’ she said. ’I aim to bring in some real creative minds to move
our strategies forward. I’ve appointed a headhunter and we’ll be
interviewing people over the next few weeks.’
IPC’s chief executive Sly Bailey was keen to emphasise the need for a
renewed marketing initiative.
’It’s an important move for IPC and Philippa is the right person to lead
it,’ she said. ’This rightly puts marketing at the top of our business
agenda.’
Brown will retain her responsibilities as marketing director and board
member of IPC tx, the publisher’s TV weeklies group.
However, IPC will be searching for a replacement to take on her ad
marketing responsibilities.
IPC has been the subject of recent media speculation centring around the
sale of the group by its owner, Cinven.
