IPC lures back Hilton from Emap for new launches

LONDON - IPC Media has lured back Phil Hilton, former editor of Later magazine, as development editor overseeing the editorial content of new titles the publisher plans to launch.

IPC announced in December that it had promoted former FHM editor Mike Soutar as editorial director, with a brief to look at launching new brands across the group. Soutar had been managing director of IPC's men's and music division, IPC Ignite!.

Hilton will report to Soutar and will be responsible for overseeing the editorial direction of the new titles.

Hilton previously worked at IPC as editor of the now-defunct older men's title Later between 1999 and 2001. He then joined rival Emap as editor-in-chief of spin-off title FHM Bionic, before moving to FHM to edit its Reporter section at the beginning of last year when FHM Bionic folded.

Before working on Later, Hiton was editor of Men's Health, and he has also held the role of deputy features editor on Emap's FHM.

The appointment of Hilton would suggest that IPC's launch plans are moving ahead although there has been no indication from IPC as to when the first of the new launches will appear.
