The publisher of Marie Claire and Loaded has hired recruitment agency Time Warner Recruitment to carry out the search to replace Caroline McDevitt who left last December.
The position is open to both internal and external candidates.
Speaking to Media Week after her promotion, Webster said: "Caroline left of her own volition, but that is not to say we won't replace her. I knew I was going to be chief executive and I wanted to take on her duties."
However, one agency source said combining the duties of both high-profile roles was "never a realistic option" for IPC.
The appointment comes as IPC plans to launch a new cookery title, Dinner Tonight, in a bid to establish itself in the home-cooking field against rivals such as BBC Magazines and H Bauer.
Dinner Tonight is set to launch in September with a £2.99 cover price as a sub-brand of IPC's monthly magazine, Woman & Home.
