IPC bars new hirings as downturn bites

LONDON - IPC Media has imposed a three-month recruitment freeze on all departments as the effects of an economic slowdown are felt.

A spokeswoman for the publisher said: "IPC can confirm that it has taken the precaution of introducing a temporary recruitment freeze, effective from June 16 for three months. This is a response to the prevailing economic climate.

"While no vacancies will be advertised externally during this period, there will be an internal process to advise vacancies, which will remain to existing staff."

IPC last week said it will close down its football weekly Shoot after the June 30 issue. It is attempting to find new positions for the six permanent staff affected.
