IPA releases ad agency league tables by income

The Institute of Practitioners in Advertising has released the first-ever league table showing UK creative agencies listed by income as opposed to misleading billings.

LONDON (Brand Republic) - The Institute of Practitioners in Advertising has released the first-ever league table showing UK creative agencies listed by income as opposed to misleading billings.

Interpublic Group of Companies’ McCann-Erickson UK Group came out on top with an income of £74m. It was followed by Publicis Groupe’s Saatchi & Saatchi with £56.9m and WPP Group’s combined London and Manchester offices of J Walter Thompson with £44.1m.

Traditionally, the league tables have been compiled according to billings, as recorded by ACNielsen MMS. But these have been criticised for being misleading, as they are not truly representative of the actual income agencies receive and so do not offer accurate indication of the size of the business.

The league table will be published annually, based on figures derived from actual revenues, including media commissions and fees received by IPA member agencies with annual income over £500,000 during the year 2000.
