DP&A, founded 10 years ago by chairman David Poole, will retain its identity and its management team, including Poole and managing director Dan Douglas.
According to Poole: "The deal is the culmination of 18 months' discussion, which is indicative of our desire not to rush into joining a network, but to take the time to ensure the chemistry, philosophies and future business strategies were compatible."
As well as its European role at Interpublic, DP&A will be positioned closely alongside UK agency Banks Hoggins O'Shea FCB to boost its below-the-line strategy.
Harry Reid, FCB president of Europe, said: "It has always been our intention to create and secure the strongest brands and offerings in the advertising and direct marketing arenas in the UK. Bringing DP&A into the FCB fold certainly fits this bill, and the agency's impressive credentials will strengthen the group's European offering."
