- The Internet Advertising Bureau has launched an ambitious plan to audit the volume and nature of UK advertising expenditure on the Internet and aims to give the first real break down of media spend online.

The survey will provide a quarterly tracking audit of all internal media spend, with breakdowns by industry sector and the type of media owner the advertising is placed with.

The IAB, which now represents 36 media owners and sales house in the UK, is running the project with accountancy firm, Coopers & Lybrand, which is also involved in running identical projects with sister IAB organisations in both Europe and the US.

The aim of the project is to create a definite set of web advertising expenditure statistics, providing the industry with a comprehensive source backed by the credibility of an experienced independent auditor.

The IAB is encouraging all UK new-media owners and sales houses to take part, whether they are members of the IAB or not.
