Who does what?
Having one of the fastest-growing media agencies in UK is a blessing, but makes it hard to mention everyone by name. We have doubled staff from 17 to 34 this past year, adding 12 people in the last six months alone. We're a very integrated agency. In the past eight months we have launched a media planning and buying division, now six people strong. We started 2007 by launching a mobile unit. We have one search engine optimisation and three pay-per-click teams, and separate departments for administration, marketing, web development and sales. Last but not least are the directors, who set the corporate vision: chief executive Oliver Bishop, chief operating officer Tony Samios, director of strategy Duncan Parry, and sales director Julian Walker.
Who is the biggest character and why?
Alastair Boyle, PPC account manager. A former DJ, he has boundless energy and endless contacts. Thanks to him we get prior knowledge of the hottest gigs. He also orchestrates our participation in sporting events.
What is your office atmosphere like?
Upbeat, fast-paced, vibrant - all those cliches associated with a start-up during an industry upswing. We work hard and play hard. More cliches: everyone gets along and we function as one big happy family.
What stands you apart from the rest of the industry?
Steak's core difference is that where most digital agencies started with planning and buying and then introduced search as an afterthought, we have done it the other way round. All our plans begin with strategic insights gained from search findings. Our client gets quantifiable info on qualified prospects, which is fed back into the campaigns that we develop across all media, to ensure the right audience is targeted at the right time.
What does it take to get a job in your team?
Focus, being a team player, a real passion for the industry - and the drive to create the best integrated digital marketing opportunities for the client. Oh, and a sense of fun and some sporting ability doesn't hurt.
How are staff encouraged to hit targets?
We're very competitive about driving value for clients within the teams.
We encourage each other to exceed targets - and expectations.
Where do you all let your hair down?
Located in Covent Garden, we're spoilt for choice. We can also be sighted beyond the office neighbourhood - we do get around.
