According to the company's research, the widespread use of artificial colourings has left consumers feeling uncomfortable about drinks that use only natural colouring. However, Innocent intends to create a product from green fruit.
Innocent tests a number of recipes every year, of which about 80% make it onto the shelves. It also produces several seasonal smoothies, the latest of which is a Blackcurrant & Gooseberries variant for autumn. According to Innocent, it is the only such product in the world to use gooseberries.
Innocent also plans to launch the first fully compostable smoothie bottle this autumn. The packaging, which is made from corn starch, will be produced using a carbon-neutral process.
Other activity has included the launch of a Pomegranate & Raspberry smoothie to capitalise on the growing popularity of so-called superfruit. In April, Innocent added extra Senga Sengana strawberries, specifically sourced for their deep red colour, to its Banana & Strawberry smoothie.
Innocent, which prides itself on its ethical stance and transparency, recently launched a blog to allow it to communicate directly with consumers about life at the company, new recipes and flavours, and where it sources its fruit.
