The Dakar Rally is an annual professional off-road endurance race involving more than 400 drivers over 15-days and 9,043 km through seven African countries.
As part of the deal, BT Infonet logos will be splashed all over the five Volkswagen Race Touareg 2s. The sponsorship will also cover upcoming Fia Cross Country Rally competitions such as Rally Morocco and Egypt Rally.
Volkswagen is aiming to be the first manufacturer to win the race with a diesel-powered vehicle, led by double World Rally Champion driver Carlos Sainz.
The team, which comprises drivers from Germany, South Africa, Sweden and the US, will feature newly crowned Fia Cross-Country Rally World Cup Champion Bruno Saby, and the only woman to have won the Dakar Rally, Jutta Kleinschmid.
Jose Collazo, chief executive officer of BT Infonet, said: "The Dakar Rally is a gruelling sporting competition fought at the very highest levels. Similar to our business, success in rally driving is dependent on each team's execution of technology and teamwork."
BT Infonet, fully owned by BT Group and part of BT Global Services, provides local service support in over 70 countries and its network is accessible from more than 180 countries.
