The Indy abandons its 'Business Review' in cost-cutting push

The Independent has axed its weekly Business Review section as

plummeting ad revenues continue to hit national papers hard.

The section, which contained news, analyses and features on financial

markets, a corporate profile and an investment page, made its last

showing last Wednesday.

It carried a single page of recruitment advertising, half a page of

display advertising and an advertorial.

Parent company Independent News & Media (INM) announced its intention to

cut its flagship title's costs in September after posting a fall in

first-half profits. At the same time, INM said The Independent and its

Sunday sister paper would not break even this year as forecast, blaming

poor ad revenues.
