Industry fundraisers to tackle Hadrian's Wall

Members of the event industry are to take part in a fundraising walk along Hadrian's Wall this May in honour of former Gallowglass freelance logistics manager Howard Kerr, who lost his battle against pancreatic cancer last year.

Following his diagnosis, Kerr embarked on a series of activities with the aim of raising awareness and providing funds for the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund.

In April last year, Kerr and 12 industry colleagues walked the Ridgeway, an ancient track running from Hertfordshire to Wiltshire.

Brother-in-law and managing director of event crewing firm Gallowglass Nick Grecian has taken up the challenge for 2009 on Kerr's behalf.

"Last year's fundraising activities raised in excess of £80,000, which was used to create a PHD Studentship Award. Our goal for 2009 is to raise the funds to maintain that award for another year," said Grecian.

The 85-mile Howard's Way Walk will start from Wall's End in Newcastle and continue to Bowness-on-Solway.

Around 20 walkers will cover the distance over four days from 1-4 May with three nights rest.
