Incumbent WTCS to pitch as Channel 5 calls £6m ad review

Channel 5's newly appointed marketing director, David Pullan, has put the broadcaster's £6 million creative account up for review, less than a month after officially taking up his position.

The review, out of the three-year incumbent, Walsh Trott Chick Smith, is being handled by the AAR, which has already contacted agencies for credentials. A shortlist is expected to be drawn up within the next few weeks. The media planning and buying account, currently held by Walker Media, is believed to be unaffected by the review.

WTCS will repitch for the Channel 5 account, which it picked up in July 1998. The agency was appointed by the then marketing director Jim Hytner, initially on an interim basis, following Mother's decision to resign the account. The agency was officially handed the business a month later after a planned pitch was called off.

WTCS has since produced a range of controversy-courting poster executions for Channel 5, including last year's "smiles

campaign and an ad which enraged ITV with the tagline: "6pm news on 5 (repeated 6.30pm on ITV)."
