An immigrant's struggles mirror his future success in University of Phoenix ad

ICU director plays himself in uplifting Grammys spot by 180LA

After emigrating from Mexico with his parents, Carlos Ramirez worked odd jobs and looked after his three younger siblings. Caring for them helped set him on a career path, and 14 years later, he’s a PhD candidate and the director of an intensive care unit, thanks to undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Phoenix. In a 60-second television spot by 180LA, Ramirez plays himself in the present day, while a lookalike actor plays his younger self, struggling to make ends meet while taking classes. The TV spot will run on broadcast and cable networks and will air during the Grammy Awards. Additional online videos tell more of Ramirez’s story.
