The planned display will take place on New Year’s Eve and will feature over 400,000 individual fireworks from 400 locations. It will attempt to break the current record of 77,000 fireworks set by Kuwait in 2012.
IMG Artists has appointed Fireworks by Grucci to design and produce the display. Dubai-based composer Matt Faddy will provide a synchronised soundtrack.
The fireworks will illuminate Dubai landmarks including Islands of The World, The Palm Jumeirah and Atlantis the Palm.
The six-minute show, which has taken months of planning, will involve 170 skilled pyrotechnicians and more than 60 computer control systems used to fire with split-second accuracy.
Television production company Sparkly Light will capture the magic with multiple aerial camera positions. The full display will be screened live as part of Dubai TV’s New Year’s Eve coverage.
Jerry Inzerillo, president and chief executive of IMG Artists, said: "IMG Artists is honoured to work with the government of Dubai on this memorable event.
"Together with Simon Tapping, IMG Artists’ managing director for events and festivals, I was personally involved in the launch event for the Palm Jumeirah in 2008, and we are now honoured to be invited to surpass that event. 2013 has been an extraordinary year for Dubai, and on behalf of the entire IMG Artists team, we are proud to help them celebrate in style."
