IKEA seeks UK ad agency

LONDON - Furniture retailer IKEA has put its £5m UK advertising account up for review.

IKEA seeks UK ad agency

The company has most recently been using Danish ad agency RBLM to handle the bulk of the business but the contract comes to an end at the end of April. It has also used Agency.com in the UK to handle its digital business, but has now asked the AAR to oversee a review with a result due at the end of May.

Karmarama and St Luke's have also worked on the account; the former was responsible for an ad campaign featuring the spoof designer Van den Puup, which coincided with a riot at the opening of its Edmonton store in February 2005, and was subsequently pulled.

Anna Crona, marketing manager IKEA UK, said: ‘Whilst IKEA is a global brand we feel that it has a special place in the hearts of the UK consumer and we are therefore looking to appoint an agency that can help is maintain our global communication platform at the same time as being able to connect with our UK audience.'

Media planning and buying, handled by MediaCom, is not affected by the review.
