Iconic Levi's ad to be recreated by Beckham for charity

LONDON - The legendary Levi's 'launderette' ad is to be recreated for Comic Relief by David Beckham and June Brown, better known as Dot Cotton from 'EastEnders'.

According to The Sun, the spoof ad will be shot in the launderette on Albert Square and will use the same music from the original, Marvin Gaye's 'I Heard It Through the Grapevine'. Beckham will strip to his boxers while Dot Cotton looks on in shock.

The original ad, which promoted Levi's 501s, propelled model Nick Kamen to fame. Created by Bartle Bogle Hegarty, the ad first appeared on Boxing Day in 1985 and helped Levi's boost sales by 800%.

It still crops up in polls of favourite ads of all time and is credited with helping creator John Hegarty score a place in the Creative Hall of Fame.

The BBC Children in Need appeal night is to be held on November 17. It is already being promoted with a campaign starring an unexpectedly beefed-up Terry Wogan.

Other events will include 'Celebrity Scissorhands', where three celebrities are being trained to become hairdressers for the night.

Money raised by Children in Need is distributed to charities working on issues including homelessness, disabilities and sexual abuse.
