Hurman next to depart in Bailey's Trinity Mirror reshuffle

Trinity Mirror has continued its purge of senior management with the departure of the Mirror Group ad director Neil Hurman.

Hurman, who joined Mirror Group from Leagas Delaney in late 2000, was the last remaining senior national newspaper executive inherited by the new Trinity Mirror chief executive, Sly Bailey, when she joined the company in January.

Ellis Watson, who was hired as the Mirror Group's general manager in May, will take over ad sales responsibilities, but Mirror Group is looking externally for a replacement for Hurman.

Mark Haysom, the managing director of Mirror Group, and its marketing director, Alisdair Luxmoore, left the company before Hurman.

Hurman's departure comes ahead of Bailey's announcement of the findings of a group strategic review that will be unveiled this week along with its interim results. Further redundancies are expected in addition to a shake-up of its marketing and sales operations. However, it is not expected that any national or regional titles will have to be disposed of.

Mirror Group has also closed M, its women's supplement, which was distributed with the Saturday edition of the Daily Mirror. The TV listings guide The Look is also being axed. The final editions of the magazines will appear with the 9 August edition of the paper.

Savings from the axing of the two titles are expected to be poured into developing the Daily Mirror in an attempt to boost its circulation.

Its circulation is still below the two-million mark and in the ABC figures for June, its total sales fell 0.85 per cent to 1,948,870.
