HTC steals Nokia's thunder with Windows phone launch

Nokia looks set to lose the first-mover advantage as HTC prepares for the UK launch of its first smartphones, which run on Microsoft's "Mango" operating system.

HTC is preparing to launch its Titan and Radar smartphones this month, while Nokia still has not revealed the date for the launch of new handsets running on a Windows Phone 7 operating system (OS).

Taiwan-based HTC is expected to launch its "Mango" phones on Wednesday 19 October. "Mango" is the code name for Windows Phone 7.5, an updated version of the Windows Phone 7 OS which allows users to rapidly switch between apps running at the same time.

after deciding to drop its own Symbian OS in favour of Windows Phone 7.

The move was hailed as a shrewd decision by Nokia because its Symbian OS could not compete with the popularity of Apple's iOS and Google’s Android operating systems.

Nokia has as part of its partnership with Microsoft.

The campaign was expected to roll out this month to coincide with the launch of a Windows Phone 7 based phones in the face of stiff competition from Apple, Research in Motion, Samsung and HTC.
