The cards can hold up to £1000 or €1000 and will be available in a range of designs, presented in a wallet. They will be sold online and in store via specially designed till-point fixtures.

The department store group is expected to introduce giftcards for the business-to-business sector later in the year.

House of Fraser will be one of the anchor brands at the much-anticipated Westfield shopping centre, which opens in West London next Thursday.

The UK Department Stores 2008 survey by Verdict Research predicted that store expansion activity by high-street department stores, including House of Fraser, would contribute to market growth this year.
