The Department for Culture, Media and Sport has revealed that it will end its backing of a star-based system in favour of consumer-led reviews such as those hosted on the TripAdvisor website. The government's full recommendations will be detailed when it publishes its tourism strategy next month.

Jeremy Brinkworth, head of business development at Visit-England, said: 'Star ratings are still an important factor.'
