LONDON (Brand Republic) - The number of home internet users in the UK has risen by 1m to 13.5m during the five months to February 2001, according to the latest figures from Jupiter MMXI.
The amount of time that users spend online has also increased. The average time in March 2000 was about 275 minutes per month, compared with about 400 in February 2001.
The figures for February show that men make up 49.8% of the online population while women account for 35% and children aged 2-14 amount to 15.2%. Children have been the fastest-growing internet usage group, growing from 10.7% in October 2000.
The so-called digital divide, based on household income, has been closing, according to the figures. A year ago, households with annual income below £15,000 accounted for 15.9% of the online population. In February 2001, however, they accounted for 17.3%. Over the same period, households with income of more than £45,000 have declined from 19.3% to 14.7%.
