Hi-Fi News gets second image overhaul in a year

LONDON - The world's longest established hi-fi magazine Hi-Fi news is to relaunch in August, less than a year after its last redesign.

The 50-year-old IPC publication will have a more contemporary look and a new colour palette and photographic style.

New sections have been introduced to bring it more up to date with the needs of music consumers and focus more on the style aspect of hi-fi equipment.

"Jargon Buster" will help readers demystify the lingo of hi-fi; "Hi-Fi Doctor" will go to readers' houses to solve problems with their hi-fi systems; and a "How to..." guide will look at subjects like digitising record collections for MP3 players and how best to position your hi-fi equipment.

A new equipment ratings system will also be introduced, which will score equipment for specification and features, sound quality, build quality and value for money.

There are also awards for best buy and best sound, as well as the Hi-Fi News gold award, which goes to products reviewed and rated by the magazine as the absolute state-of-the-art.

The new music section will include releases in classical, jazz, rock, and in Audiophile, music recorded at a very high standard to deliver top quality reproduction through hi-fi systems.

Steve Fairclough, Hi-Fi News editor, said: "Our aim is to make the magazine more accessible to a wider audience and to help people with buying decisions, as well as reflecting the beauty and style of the equipment we review with a stunning new look that delivers quality throughout."

Neil Singleton, group art editor at IPC Country & Leisure Media's Focus Network, spearheaded the redesign, which will be unveiled in the July 28 issue.
