Henley joined Classic FM at its launch in 1992. He became managing editor in 2000 and station manager, with responsibility for the brand nationally, four years later.
In his new role, he will oversee the editorial and business management of all Classic FM's brand extensions as well as the general management of the station.
Ralph Bernard, GCap chief executive, attributed Henley with playing a "pivotal role" in making Classic FM the country's leading commercial station, as well as helping establish the brand across media, in books, magazines, TV and concerts.
Henley said he was keen to develop digital station theJazz, which launched on Christmas Day last year, to the same scale as sister station Classic FM.
