The new Heinz Beanz packaging is a plastic jar with a screw top, dubbed the Fridge Pack, which will go on sale in September with a RRP of £1.79.
The packaging is designed to solve the bean buyer's dilemma of buying a larger tin of beans costing only a few pence more than a single portion, only to find an open can of beans forgotten in the fridge days later.
But with each 1kg Fridge Pack being the equivalent of two-and-a-half cans and lasting only for five days after being opened, it is likely to be purchased mainly by families or die-hard bean lovers.
Phil Jones, vice-president of sales at Heinz UK and Ireland, said: "The launch of the Fridge Pack demonstrates how we are harnessing consumer trends, driving innovation and making the category more relevant and more exciting for consumers. In doing so, we are continuing to grow sales for our retail partners."
Heinz has successfully launched new baked beans packaging with the Snap Pot – individual servings of beans that can be microwaved. The company says it now sells nine million pots a year.
