Hegarty, a co-founder of Bartle Bogle Hegarty, who was knighted in 2007 for his services to advertising, will chair the judging process in August and September.

The winners will be announced at London’s Grosvenor House on 23 October.

The Big Awards, the UK’s pre-eminent scheme to reward commercial creativity, are open for entry.

Categories include the best campaigns in an array of sectors and embrace digital and interactive techniques as well as traditional film and poster craft. The deadline for submissions is 5 July.

Danny Rogers, the editor of ±±¾©Èü³µpk10, said: "The Big Awards are the British equivalent of the Oscars for advertising and digital campaigns, so it’s appropriate that our chair is an advertising industry legend."

Hegarty said: "In a world of accelerating change, the Big Awards capture the evolving creative opportunities and help point a way forward. Who wouldn’t want to be at the centre of that?"
