Heart takes Theakston's breakfast show national on DAB

LONDON - Jamie Theakston's breakfast radio show on London's Heart 106.2 is being repackaged and launched nationally across Heart's digital radio network.

Listeners across Heart's five DAB regions of the North East, North West and Yorkshire, South Wales, the West and central Scotland, will now receive localised versions of Theakston's breakfast show from 7am to 10am.

While the main content of the show will stay the same, news and travel bulletins have been changed to fit the local area.

Barnaby Dawe, Heart managing director, said: "Taking the Jamie Theakston breakfast show across the UK ensures that Heart continues to be a national brand with local links.

"Our regional digital Heart stations will now have access to exclusive big celebrity interviews, which have previously only been available to London 106.2 listeners."

Theakston's London show, which is the second most popular breakfast programme in London, behind Capital's Johnny Vaughan, will continue to be broadcast between 6am and 9am.

According to the latest Rajar figures, Heart, which is owned by Chrysalis, is still the most popular station in London with a market share of 6%, marginally ahead of Capital with 5.9%.

Heart is looking to maintain this lead in London with the launch of a TV advertising push in the capital next week.

Called "overwashed", the Clemmow Hornby Inge creative aims to target lapsed and non-listeners with the message that the station has a diverse playlist.

It features a young woman listening to the station as she washes her bright pink VW Beetle car. She is so entranced by the variety of music that she ends up spending all day scrubbing and washes the car's colour away.

The campaign runs for four weeks on Carlton, LWT, Channel 4, Five and satellite and cable channels from April 24.
