She will take responsibility for Capital Radio and Choice FM as well as the company’s national commercial sales and online operations, reporting directly to GCap Media chief executive Ralph Bernard.
Hazlitt is on four months gardening leave from Virgin and will start her new job on 1 May. She will also join the board of GCap Media.
This will be Hazlitt’s second stint at Capital, having worked as sales director at the station for three years until 1999 under chief executive of the pre-merged group, David Mansfield.
She was subsequently managing director of Yahoo! UK and Ireland, in a surprising and short-lived move away from radio, before joining Virgin in April 2005.
Hazlitt will take responsibility for the London stations away from group operations director Steve Orchard who will continue to be in charge of the One Network, which covers the 42 stations outside London and all other national brands and GCap content.
In a statement to the Stock Exchange this morning Bernard said Hazlitt was committed to returning Capital Radio to the number one position in London for the first time in two years.
