Haymarket's Clarke joins Archant magazine unit

LONDON - Regional newspaper and consumer magazine publisher Archant has hired Haymarket Medical Publishing managing director Dr Farine Clarke to head up its Archant Specialist magazine division.

Clarke will be responsible for 13 monthly magazines, including Photography Monthly, Which Camera?, and leisure magazines Pilot and Sport Diver.

A fully qualified GP, Clarke has worked at Haymarket Medical Publishing, parent of GP and Medeconomics magazines, for eight years. She joined as editorial director and progressed to managing director, where she was responsible for the medical magazines and medical contract publishing operations.

According to Clarke: "It's clear from the magazines that the teams not only have an impressive depth of knowledge but also a shared passion for their titles. I'm very much looking forward to being involved with such an exciting and growing part of the company."

Clarke joins the company on February 17 and replaces Alan Lewis, who left the company before Christmas. Lewis joined Archant when it acquired the magazine business MarketLink.

Archant chief executive John Fry said: "I am delighted Farine is joining us. She brings a wealth of experience with her to our growing consumer magazine business."

Archant publishes The Ham & High, the popular local newspaper for the Hamstead and Highgate area in North London. It recently launched a sister local newspaper for the Maida Vale and St John's Wood area called The Wood & Vale.
