Halifax backs new ipoints credit card

High-street bank Halifax is to back a credit card launched by internet reward firm ipoints. The move will see the two companies go head to head against established reward credit cards from Barclaycard and NatWest/Airmiles.

High-street bank Halifax is to back a credit card launched by internet reward firm ipoints. The move will see the two companies go head to head against established reward credit cards from Barclaycard and NatWest/Airmiles.

Ipoints, which currently has nearly 400,000 members, claims to be the first internet credit card to offer points towards free rewards. It can be used both online and offline. One per cent of money spent on the card is converted into ipoints.

When taking out the card, holders will receive 100 points, which is worth pounds 10. They will receive an extra 100 ipoints if they spend over pounds 2,500 a year. Cardholders will also receive double ipoints if they use the card with one of the company's 50 corporate partners,
