Hachette restructures commercial operations

LONDON - Hachette Filipacchi UK is restructuring its commercial operations and creating two separate sales operations, one for its women's magazines, and the other for its teen and entertainment divisions.

The shake-up is the latest move by the French company to turn up the heat on rivals Emap and The National Magazine Company since it paid £40m for Attic Futura earlier this year and severed its joint venture with Emap, giving it control of women's titles Elle and Red.

As part of the move, Hachette has appointed Cath Ware as commercial director for the women's group. Ware joins from NatMags where she held the same post.

Ware, who is also a former commercial director at Emap, will be responsible for B and Elle Decoration, in addition to Elle and Red.

She will oversee a team of four ad directors: Jacqui Greaves, who is ad director of Elle; Michelle McQueen, ad director of Elle Decoration; and Lisa Tookey, ad director of B. The Red ad director's role is being taken up by Clare Dempster. She joins from Emap where she was commercial director for Period Living, Top Sante and Elle Decoration. Before that, she was the launch ad manager of Red.

Hachette UK managing director Vivien Cotterill said: "Hachette wants to ensure that we provide targeted advertising and business solutions that are easily implemented but that we also maintain a relationship between the individual magazine brands and the clients and agencies."

The company recently folded its CD:UK magazine into TV Hits. Its new teen and entertainment sales division will also include Inside Soap, All About Soap, ElleGirl and Sugar.
