Shot in the style of cinematic thriller, the spot, which will break next month, shows a man heading out the door on his way to work.
As he does, his wife moves upstairs and pulls a Saturday night special revolver out of a drawer, while the man is putting on his seatbelt.
The wife moves out of the house and looms behind her husband in the car. She is then seen cocking the pistol, but instead of using the gun to shoot her husband, she fires it in the air like a starting pistol.
The campaign was written by Mike Boles, art directed by Jerry Hollens and directed by Rocky Morton through MJZ.
It is one of a series of ads that plays up the sporty side of the Freelander by showing people who come over all sporty in the presence of the car. A poster campaign along the same lines will show a streaker running in front of the car, a road marker who paints a penalty box around a Freelander, and someone filling up the car with Lucozade instead of petrol.
Guerrilla and outdoor activity to build awareness of the model is running throughout the summer months. It has already started with a Wimbledon stunt where Land Rover-branded tennis balls will be given out to waiting tennis fans.
The television ad, "gun", breaks on July 5 and will be broadcast on national UK television. The print campaign is to appear in lifestyle magazines, national press and supplements in the UK, Spain, Italy and France. Media planning and buying is through MindShare.
