
The Paris-based company, which also owns Yves Saint Laurent and Balenciaga, is looking to "speed up development" of its sport and lifestyle group, and has said that Volcom, which specialises in skate, surf and snowboarding apparel and accessories, will be "complementary" to Puma.
"Volcom is arguably one of the most desirable global action sports brands with an authentic legacy rooted in surf, skate and snow sports," said François-Henri Pinault, chairman and chief executive of PPR.
Richard Woolcot, chairman and chief executive of Volcom, said PPR will help the brand, which was founded in California in 1991, expand globally.
Last week (27 April) Puma became one of the first brands to advertise on Vevo, the online music service, following its UK launch.
