Guardian relaunches jobs site

The Guardian claims the new site will give advertisers a better match for applicants than the existing system. It will use a new team operating under the name of Jobmatch.

鈥淛obmatch not only ensures a highly targeted response, it also helps recruiters by delivering relevant interested candidates directly to them,鈥 claimed Helen Bird, The Guardian鈥檚 head of classified.

鈥淚t eliminates the need for scouring CV databases, so recruiters don鈥檛 have to rely on their ideal candidate happening to see their job at the particular time it鈥檚 advertised,鈥 she added. Sifting of potential applicants will be done by hand, instead of by automated system.

The original site was launched in 2001 and now handles about 400,000 unique users a month.

Advertisement director Stuart Taylor said: 鈥淭he new site complements the success of the newspaper and enhances our recruitment offering, giving more choice to both advertisers and job seekers.鈥

The Guardian again stoked up the broadsheet issue last week, just weeks after ruling out a move to tabloid in the near future.

In an interview with Media Week鈥檚 sister publication Press Gazette, Guardian editor Alan Rusbridger refused to deny the title would opt for a smaller broadsheet size. Rusbridger promised major changes at the newspaper in the next 12 months.
