Guardian promotes Waldman to digital strategy role

LONDON - The Guardian Media Group has promoted Guardian Unlimited chief Simon Waldman to the newly created role of group director of digital strategy and development.

The role has been created to better integrate the group's digital offering across all its divisions, and involves close work with group finance director Nick Castro and chief executive Carolyn McCall addressing present and future digital strategy across the group.

Waldon is currently director of digital publishing for the group's Guardian Newspapers national media division, which includes the site.

McCall said: "Simon is widely acknowledged as being one of the most insightful digital thinkers in the media right now.

"He has helped turn Guardian Unlimited into a world-renowned website, and has shown extraordinary prescience in assessing the digital challenges and opportunities ahead. He is uniquely placed to contribute to the growth of GMG."

GMG also announced this morning that its Trader Media Group has bought the property website for an undisclosed sum adding to its digital portfolio.
