Guardian cover price to climb to 70p

LONDON – The Guardian is raising its cover price by 10p to 70p on Monday, following 5p increases by the other quality papers.

The recent upward trend in cover prices began in September when The Times went up from 55p to 60p.

In November The Daily Telegraph added 5p to its cost, leaving it at 65p, and earlier this week The Independent went to 70p with a 5p increase.

The price of the Saturday Guardian will also rise 10p to £1.30.

The rise in cover price comes after the Guardian's switch to the Berliner format in September and this weekend's move of sister paper The Observer to the same format.

In its most recent ABC for November, the Guardian was down just 0.56% to 401,029 copies.

Joe Clark, print, distribution and circulation director of Guardian
Newspapers, said: "This is great news for retailers and we'd like
to thank them for their continued support."

Retail margin will increase on a pro rata basis. Retail remuneration for a sale of the Guardian in the UK will now be 17.5p for Monday to Friday and 30.68p for Saturday.
