Two executions of the commercial, created by BMP DDB, showed the calf asking his mother two different questions about life after the abbatoir.
In the offending ad, the calf asks: "Mama, what'll happen to me when I go to the golden pasture in the sky?"
A shortened version of the ad cuts straight to a bald-headed, thuggish-looking football fan taking a huge bite out of a pie.
In a longer version, the calf's mother replies to the question. She says: "Well, your shoulders and your ribs will go to the nice big supermarket, and your tongue and your legs to that lovely local organic butcher." The calf then asks: "But what about my testicles?" Then the shot cuts to the football fan eating the pie.
Of the 85 objections received by the Independent Television Commission to the ads, 58 were concerned about the deliberately insensitive juxtaposition of the cute cartoon image and the pie, complaining that it was in bad taste and offensive to animal lovers.
The ITC received 12 complaints raising the issue of the effect the ad would have on children, and 15 were upset about the reference to testicles.
The ads dodged a ban because the BACC had applied an "ex-kids" restriction on to the shorter versions, so they would not be scheduled in nor adjacent to programmes likely to be watched by children.
The BACC applied a post-9pm restriction on the longer version, which referred to the calf's testicles.
A second execution featured the calf asking what would happen to his aunt Bessie.
