Guardian appoints InBev's Fowden to head Trader Media

LONDON - Guardian Media Group has appointed InBev's European president Jerry Fowden to take up the role of Trader Media Group chief executive after current chief Graham Luff retires next year.

At InBev, which was formerly known as Interbrew, Fowden is responsible for Western, Central and Eastern Europe with €5bn (£3.47bn) turnover, and 27,000 employees across 17 countries.

Fowden previously held the position of chief operating officer of Interbrew's worldwide business when he joined the company in 2001. Prior to this, he worked in senior executive positions within Mars, Pepsi Cola International, Bass and the Rank Group.

Sir Robert Phillis, chief executive of GMG and chairman of Trader Media Group, said: "Jerry brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that will make a major contribution to the next phase of Trader Media Group's development."

Fowden, who will be relocating to the UK when he takes up the post in January, added: "It's a wonderful opportunity to be part of such a diverse media company as GMG and lead such a successful business as Trader Media Group."

Trader Media Group owns around 70 titles, specialising in the automotive industry. It was created in 2000 following the merger of GMG Autotrader with Hurst Publishing, at that time owned by BC Partners.

In October 2003, GMG acquired the total Trader Media Group business, valued at £1.1bn.
