Greggs strengthens brand with plans for 600 new outlets

The company already has 1,400 outlets in the UK. It said it plans to open around 60 new stores in the remainder of this year, followed by at least 70 new shops a year from 2011 onwards.

The news follows Greggs' announcement of its strong financial figures, which showed its sales had risen by 1% in the first 42 weeks of its financial year.

In August, Greggs reported a pre-tax profit of £16.5m for the first six months of the year, an increase of 7.3%.
