By the close of play yesterday (11 October), organisers Media 10 recorded 40,000 people through the doors of the NEC  - a 30 per cent increase on last year's figures.

"This is a staggering result," said Media 10 group marketing director Rob Nathan.

"Given the negativity surrounding the current economic climate, it's reassuring to see that consumers are starting to spend more on their homes and feel confident again.

"It's also proof that as a company we are surviving the downturn that some other exhibitions are becoming victim to. The market is starting to become more buoyant so it is really positive for the exhibition industry our shows are continuing to grow and be a success."

The three-day event was opened by presenter Kevin McCloud on Friday (9 October).

George Clarke, John Burton-Race and a host of celebrities were on site to greet waiting visitors and kick-off the show.
