Government finalises All Party Parliamentary Group for events industry

The events industry has finally achieved formal recognition in the halls of government with the creation of a dedicated parliamentary group.

The All Party Parliamentary Group for Events (APPG) was formally established last week after a meeting at the House of Commons to elect officer.

Conservative member for Enfield North Nick De Bois was elected chair of the APPG, with Labour Member for Edinburgh South Ian Murray acting as vice chair. Steve Brine and Paul Uppal were elected at treasurer and secretary respectively.

The first APPG meeting will take place on 13 June with Excel CEO Kevin Murphy addressing the panel about business events. There will also be a talk about outdoor, cultural events and festivals as well as familiarisation visits to various venues for members.

The establishment of the group follows.
