Google offers advertisers free tracking on AdWords

NEW YORK - Google is expanding its AdWords service, which allows advertisers to show ads above and to the side of Google's search results, by offering a free conversion tracking tool, so that advertisers can see how effective the service is.

With the launch of the free conversion tracker, says advertisers will be able to choose the most relevant search words.

As well as adding the conversion tool, which is available immediately for advertisers using the UK and US AdWords interface, Google said it was launching an expanded matching capability.

This means that Google will run advertisers' ads automatically on relevant keywords, including synonyms and other related phrases, even if they were not already selected. For example, if an advertiser's keyword is "Honolulu hotels", their ads may also appear on "Hawaii hotels" or "Honolulu inns".

The news came as Yahoo!, which is losing search market share to Google, announced that its sponsored search service revenues had doubled, contributing to a 48% rise in marketing services revenues at Yahoo! during the past quarter.

In a statement, the company said: "The new features and higher quality standards continue Google's commitment to improving the user experience and thereby ensuring the long-term health and profitability of advertiser campaigns."
