GMG changes programme controller at London's Smooth

LONDON - GMG Radio has appointed Gavin McCoy as programme controller of its London station, 102.2 Smooth FM, which is set to relaunch on March 26.

McCoy replaces Mark Walker, who has been offered other opportunities within GMG Radio.

He joins from the Saga FM group, which was acquired by GMG in December, and has spent the last six years as head of presentation for Saga FM's digital operations.

Smooth FM underwent a transformation in December last year after successfully lobbying Ofcom for the right to switch to an over-50s, easy-listening format.

The station's relaunch as Smooth Radio will allow it to focus on easy listening music and target a more mature audience.

McCoy also has a background as on-air talent, having presented the breakfast show for now defunct digital station PrimeTime Radio.
