LONDON - General Motors Europe has appointed Jonathan Browning as vice-president, global sales, service and marketing.

Browning, 48, who had been GM Europe vice-president, sales, marketing and after sales, and chairman of Vauxhall Motors, takes up the role on 1 June. He will be replaced by Brent Dewar, the North American vice president of field sales, service and parts.

Browning had held his GM Europe position since 1 December 2001 and oversaw the company's sales, marketing, brand integration and aftersales activities as well as planning the strategy of the distribution network. He assumed the role of chairman of Vauxhall Motors in May 2005.

Bill Parfitt, currently Vauxhall Motors managing director, will take on Browning's Vauxhall responsibilities from 1 June. Parfitt will maintain his existing responsibility for GME Fleet activities.
