The move is part of Global's strategy to expand the Galaxy network across the UK. Galaxy Scotland is expected to be on air before the end of the year.
The rebrand of Xfm Scotland now leaves only two Xfm-branded stations - Xfm Manchester and Xfm London. In May, Global Radio/GCap sold off Xfm Wales to Town and Country Broadcasting, which has since relaunched the station as Nation Radio.
The rebrand of Xfm Scotland will raise the number of UK Galaxy stations to five. The rest of the Galaxy UK network consists of Galaxy 102 in Manchester, Galaxy 105 in Yorkshire, Galaxy 105-106 in the North East and Galaxy 102.2 in Birmingham.
The news follows the announcement last week that Stephen Miron, managing director of The Mail on Sunday, has been poached by Global Radio to become its new chief executive of radio.
