Glasgow 2014 sets £50m revenue target

Glasgow 2014 Team Limited, the body organising the Commonwealth Games in the city, is aiming to raise £50m through broadcast rights, ticketing, merchandising and sponsorship in the run-up to the event. The latter will account for about half of that total.

The firm, which comprises the Scottish government, Glasgow City Council and the Commonwealth Games Council for Scotland, is seeking a director of marketing as it begins to assemble the organising company that will host the Games.

The Scottish government and Glasgow City Council will split the costs of staging the 12-day event, investing 80% and 20% respectively.

Glasgow was named host city for the Games on 9 November, beating off a challenge from Nigerian capital Abuja. The city's bid was supported by O2, Diageo, Highland Spring, Clydesdale Bank, BBC Scotland and First.
