The Greater London Authority (GLA) is to launch an ad campaign
urging Londoners to support Wembley's battle to remain the England
football team's national stadium.
Press ads created by GLA roster agency Soul break this week - the 35th
anniversary of England's World Cup triumph over West Germany - to
highlight Wembley's emotional claim on the nation.
The campaign, backed by the London Development Agency and 1966 hero Sir
Geoff Hurst, features a young boy in his football kit alongside the
strapline 'One day I'll play at Bickenhill'. The ads urge Londoners to
visit the GLA web site to voice their allegiance to Wembley.
Earlier this week, London mayor Ken Livingstone called on sports
minister Richard Caborn to clarify reports that the government is
offering a £70m subsidy to the FA to set up the new national
stadium in the West Midlands.
