Giveaway: Siemens Mobile uses flight freebie to drive phone sales

Siemens Mobile has devised what it claims is "the biggest ever telecoms holiday promotion" as it seeks to drive mobile phone sales with an unlimited flights giveaway.

The campaign offers a free flight to America or to one of 12 European destinations to anyone purchasing one of its SL65, M65, SX1 or CX65 handsets on a pay-monthly contract in September and October. Siemens is also offering an alternative of a European city break comprising a return flight plus two nights' accommodation up to a value of £200.

According to the company, everyone who applies for the deal will get a flight or break. The only restriction to the deal is one redemption per household. Customers must also pay airport taxes. For those not wishing to travel alone, Siemens will arrange a second flight or city break at what it describes as "competitive rates".

"We believe that this will be hugely successful as a key sales driver of our new range of handsets," said Charlotte Mitchell, the brand marketing manager at Siemens Mobile. "The value this offer presents to the consumer is extremely attractive."

Put together by Grasshopper, the push runs until 31 October and will be supported by a leaflet campaign, POP material and in-store posters.

Online, Siemens is setting up a specific microsite for the campaign.
