Getty Images "History repeats" by Havas Munich

Getty Images proves that no matter how horrible the world may seem, history is always doomed to repeat itself.

The work compares two feminists (from 1906 and 2018) as they are escorted away by police, while another ad shows the harrowing strife of refugees in both 1948 and 2017. Other images show the generation-spanning experience of Pride and the efforts of frontline workers in both the coronavirus pandemic and the Spanish influenza in 1918.

Launched across digital and outdoor activity, the work was art directed by Bettina Herz, Timo Cremer, Christina Boag and Lorine Hunt.

In 2019, Getty launched a mini-series made entirely of stock footage.
