George founder tempts five Asda execs to M&S project

Asda has lost five senior executives at its £600m annual sales clothing brand George to founder George Davies, who is working with rival retail chain Marks & Spencer.

LONDON (Brand Republic) 鈥 Asda has lost five senior executives at its £600m annual sales clothing brand George to founder George Davies, who is working with rival retail chain Marks & Spencer.

Davies left the Wal-Mart-owned chain in November to work on a branded M&S clothing range aimed at women aged 25 to 35. The range is expected to make sales of £200m.

Asda鈥檚 womenswear director John Hogan, commercial director Andrew Mossman, sales and marketing director Nena McIntosh, head of womenswear design Fiona Dexter, and head of childrenswear design Emma Trayner, who is also Davies鈥 daughter, will join him on the project.

Asda has been dismissive of the departures, with one source labelling the group as Davies鈥 鈥渢ravelling circus鈥. It says high-profile fashion names will be among their replacements and predicts sales of its George range will reach £1bn in the next 12 to 18 months.
